bassoon [10 Apr 2008|10:30pm]

[ mood | amused ]

I plaaaaay basssooooon. Wahooo. I started this year, and it's kindaaa fun. Way more than saxophone. It's hard, and I sweat a lot (A WHOLE FREAKIN' BUNCH) when I play. It's kinda funny. I don't know why it takes so much effort. Probably because I'm tiny and I hold it wrong.
Well, I love love love band geeks, so talk to me if you want, or if you don't want to, don't! :D

Oh, I play saxophone in jazz band. Yeah. It's fun.

I'm new... [14 Mar 2006|06:52pm]

[ mood | calm ]

Hello... I'm new around these parts. :D

I've been trying to resurrect my fallen band spirit. Transferring schools has really killed it, unfortunantly.

I noticed the person who posted above me said something about Ticheli. My school is playing a piece of his, it's called Vesuvius. It's really cool, but quite repetitive.

Music Project [06 Mar 2006|07:30pm]

[ mood | creative ]

Hey guys I need your help...

I'm doing a project for English where I'm comparing repetition in a certain book to one of Ticheli's pieces. And I don't know all that much technical stuff about musical repetition. Like, I know what a motive is but that's basically it. I don't know any of the real terms for anything, and I was wondering if y'all could help me out. (I'd be asking my music teacher but we don't have one right now.) Thanks y'all!

Perfect Pitch [30 Jun 2005|03:47pm]

Thought you guys might be interested in this since you play instruments.
I hope it's okay that I'm promoting a community here. If not, I'll delete this.

Do you wish you had perfect pitch? DO you know someone who does? Do you want to know more about it? Do you ever question what it's like for people who have perfect pitch, people who can pull notes out of thin air? Well, if any of these things apply to you, or you are just feeling like joining, hop on over to
and see what the fun's all about!
Hope to see you there!

Question [09 Oct 2004|01:18pm]

Has anyone here been to any of the FSU summer camps? My lessons teacher said I should look into going to one this summer, and I am trying to figure out which one to go to. I'd really like to go to either the Symphonic or Marching Band Leadership camps. (I play clarinet and alto saxophone) Both require recommendation, so I am kind of hesitant to ask my director about the marching one, since I am a lowly freshman....but I dunno. Any comments would be nice. Thanks.

jiminy... [28 Sep 2004|10:32pm]

[ mood | awake.... sorta... ]

hey... name's Riley. I'm a soon to be 16 year old Junior at Bowsher High School in Toledo, Ohio... I play piccolo in marching band (which i played in eighth grade... except we don't march until ninth...) like i did last year... look it away from everybody else cuz i'm kewl like that... and i play regular flute in Symphonic band... i was fourth chair for the last two years, depite three people ahead of me leaving after my freshmen year, but then i got braces... yucky. that screwed things up...

so yeah. i'm a big band geek, which would be why i'm here and all.... i've played flute since fifth grade, and have been taking private lessons since fifth grade. I even have an "official band geek certificate"... go me... well, and my band groupie friends made me a band groupie t-shirt... so i'm my own groupie... teh he... i should be a section leader, since one of the two girls ahead of me moved to drum major, but i'm not, cuz this really crappy player who doesn't give a crap... well, she's older than i am... and i thumb my nose at that... but oh well. I have more comtrol over the other Juniors in my section, and the freshmen... the freshmen like me... and we have no sophomores...

so yeah... for our first show this year (which is very sadly almost over) we did our "Latin Show 2004" cuz we had a latin show last year... it's kinda annoying though... San Juan Oddyssey, Land of make Believe, and Maleguena... boring.... but our next show is a Beatles show... that's cuz Kara, our only Junior drum major and my friend, is Beatles obsessed... like me, but yunno...

so anyway, any questions? ::glances around:: guess we'll see... sorry i rambled on so much... i have a tendency to do that...

Drama drama drama... [18 Sep 2004|11:18pm]

[ mood | distressed ]

Hey guys it's been a while since I posted on here. But since then we had our first 2 football games. Meh...they could have been alot better, but I'm not complaining. But the drama that's been lingering is really crazy. At the first football game last week, one of our first year Drum Majors ( we have 3 DMs all together...2 first-year DMs and one second year) has trouble conducting our first song. According to some other band members, he can't keep a steady beat when he conducts, he's all over the place with the tempo, and the fact that his style or technique could use a little practice. So it throws off the entire band and it makes us sound bad. So our second-year Drum Major, who conducts the third and final song wanted him to step down so she can do it so that the band would sound good, and also cause we weren't doing the final song that night. But he didn't...and it sounded off. So now everyone is ganging up on him, even Color Guard...so there's so much drama going on. Rawr! It's making the band divided. And coming from me, a Color Guard Captain, who is also a musician, I think that all the drama isn't helping the Band be any better.
Okay, and today we had our second game...it was raining in the morning, but it stopped by the time the game started. We didn't march our show, but it sounded a little better than last week, but we still need work. Ok I'm outta here. Byebye fellow Band Geeks.

Hello. [12 Sep 2004|02:58am]

[ mood | annoyed ]

w00t, I play trombone, and I'm in my sophomore year of high school. I'm female, yesh, and uhm...yeah.

We had a good t-shirt idea picked out, but it got thrown out because of was offensive to some people:

Trombones do it in seven positions.

Too bad we didn't get to do it. :( Mehr.

no more band. :( [13 Aug 2004|03:26pm]

Arr, I had a long post, and it got deleted.

I was talking about how much I miss band, and how sad I am that I am not going to be apart of marching band or drumline any longer. I'm going to be in cross country, which I like too...
But it's very sad, because I was such a deeply devoted bando, and I miss and love the other sections, even mine... But the reason why I'm not doing band anymore, is because of my section, basically.
I really miss my instruments too. :(

The girls in my section are my friends... but a lot of them have only one way of talking--sarcastically. The sarcasm they use isn't the type where it's no big deal.
First of all, they're sarcastic ALL the time.
Secondly, the sarcasm is rude and annoying... and hurtful, especially since I'm sensitive.

If you tell them a secret, they'll shout it out loud.
If they can see a bra strap , because you're wearing a tank top or something, they'll shout "SLUTTT ! LOOK AT THAT SLUT !"
Or randomly, they'll start calling you some bad word , because they think they're being hilarious. Oh, yes, it's so mature and funny to call out randomly, "You slut. You little b****! You whore! "

Yeah, I just find that immature, annoying, and offensive. It's really stupid.

God, I wish I knew how to play the trumpet.

Bleh, so basically, I don't want to be involved in the section I am in, and I can't be apart of any other section, since I can't play those instruments... so my highschool band days are over. *sighs* poop. :(

Cross-country is great though, I do enjoy it. I'm just really attached to band, too. :/ ....really, really, really, really attached.

I know I'm still a bando, even though I'm not physically in the marching band, and it pisses me off when that section is like, "No, you're not a bando anymore." or something... god, they make me infuriated.
